12TB DVD to be Launched Soon?

If you were impressed by Blu-ray disks then you will certainly love this idea: 12TB DVDs. Australian scientists are working on a multilayer optical storage medium which will offer you 1.1TB/cm3. The new technology will let you write 10 layers of information in the same location. These layers will have gold nanorods which will all be working with particular types of light. In total you could save 12TB of data on a single DVD. Do you have that much data to back up? How much will such technology cost? Are we to expect new players soon? When will it be available? We’ll be monitoring closely for you.
