In a jest to catch up with Netflix, Blockbuster is offering streaming set-top box. Though released quietly, Blockbuster’s set-top box is great for instant movie watching with an affordable rent.

The new Blockbuster set-top box will be giving people with more movie viewing services. It is expecting to face a lot of tough competition from the already established movie streaming service from Netflix.

Priced around $ 99, The MediaPoint is available to all who want to rent 25 movies from the Blockbuster ONDEMAND service. People having fast connections with Netflix can enjoy HD streaming from this newly launched Blockbuster set-top box.

Pioneer announces new Blu-ray burner

All of you aspiring pirates Blu-ray enthusiasts have reason to get excited as Pioneer has recently unveiled their latest Blu-ray burner, the BDR-S03J.

While only available in Japan starting in January, the BDR-S03J features the ability to burn single, as well as dual, layer Blu-rays at a speed of 8x. Of course, it can also burn DVDs at 16x, CD-Rs at 32x and CD-RWs at 24x.

Of course, it’s near $400 price tag doesn’t make this product exactly budget-friendly.

New 46-inch Sharp Aquos LCD TV

In addition to all the other Sharp Aquos LCD TVs that we already mentioned, there is a new model on the D65 line. Its screen measures 46-inches and at the moment it is the largest model available.

In terms of specifications, it has a good 20,000:1 contrast ratio, a brightness level of 450cd/m, and a response time of 6ms. On the connectivity department, the new Aquos TV offers a USB slot, 2 Scart slots, and 3 HDMI inputs. Other features include 2 speakers of 10W each, and clear voice technology.



DLO HomeDock HD Pro

There are a bunch of iPod docks available on the market, but not all of them have the special characteristics like the DLO HomeDock HD Pro. The dock has 3 main features:

Kenwood CR-iP500: Radio with iPod Dock

Kenwood has presented yet another iPod dock, but this time it is different because it has additional specs that make it worth the $270.

The CR-iP500 can playback MP3 and WMA files thanks to the CD player, or alternatively you can use the USB2.0 connection. It also has an iPod dock with controls located on the Kenwood device. The other alternative to listen to audio is the FM tuner, which is able to save 30 station presets. But the most important functionality, is the ability to rip audio CDs into a USB flash drive in MP3 format, and you can even pick the sample rate that goes from the low 96kbps to the high 256kbps.

The sound comes from the 3.15-inch speakers with 5W of “sound power”.

Cineversum lets loose BlackWing One projector

On the market for a high-end, sleek looking projector? Check out Cineversum’s BlackWing One with it’s $6,500 price tag it’s got to have some cool features, right?

The BlackWing One will come pre-calibrated so that (up to) 1080p picture will look as good as possible. Coupled with it’s 15,000:1 contrast ratio, and 1,400 lumens said 1080p picture will look pretty darn good.

The projected picture isn’t all that looks good though, with it’s French-designed chassis (not to mention the two HDMI 1.3 ports), the BlackWing One looks as good physically as the picture it projects.

Cineversum’s BlackWing One is expected to hit the market mid-December for $6,500.

YouTube increases video resolution

In a move that is sure to spark interests in those who love to stream HD content, YouTube has recently announced via their blog that they have increased the width of their video-player to 960 pixels. But what does this mean exactly?

Well, with a greater player width, users could upload videos with a higher resolution, making for higher quality content. With speculation of feature length HD movies coming to YouTube, this is certainly a step in the direction of agreeing with those rumors.

TV remote causing family fights?

Logitech’s new Harmony universal remotes probably aren’t going to stop any fights, but according to their studies recently released to promote the product, they may actually be fight starters.

According to Logitech, 91% of families fight over the remote control for the television, and of that 91%, 72% of people have argued over the remote, 12% have thrown it, and 7% have gotten into a legit physical fight over it. Sounds crazy?

Well, also according to Logitech families will watch on average 3-hours of TV this upcoming Christmas so why don’t you observe your families behavior this holiday, maybe Logitech’s findings are more correct than they come off to be.



Green House enters LCD market

The Japanese company known for making everything from MP3 players to hamburger-shaped flash drives, has recently announced that they are entering the LCD market with their debut 21.5″ model that you see above.

While there’s no telling how much the above-pictured monitor will ship for, we do know that it has a max resolution of 1920×1080, a contrast ratio of 1000:1, and a 5ms response time. Also featuring HDMI and DVI ports, along with build-in stero speakers making it a perfect option for a cheap TV replacement.

Netflix streaming coming to select Samsung BD players

It seems that the Xbox 360 isn’t the only peice of hardware that will be getting love from Netflix, Samsung has recently announced that their BD-P2500 and BD-P2550 Blu-ray players will soon gain the ability to stream HD content.

This comes to us after word that the abovementioned players would be getting SD Netflix streaming capabilities last month. This is a step in the right direction making for a more advanced (see: lazier) digital culture, as other manufacturers are sure to follow suit and release their own HD streaming players.

Samsung’s BD-P2500 and BD-P2550 will be allowed a firmware update in the first week of December that will enable HD Netflix streaming.

Marantz Wireless iPod Dock

From all the other Marantz products that we’ve mentioned before, like the AV8003 and MM8003 amplifiers or the BD8002 Blu-Ray Player, the Wireless iPod Dock is the one that stands out the most.

Unlike 80% of the other iPod docks on the market, this one doesn’t require cables due to the use of bluetooth 2.1 + EDR A2DP. Another wireless function is the bluetooth AVRCP - Audio / Video Remote Control Profile - that makes usability much better.

Yamaha DVX-1000: 2.1 Home Cinema System

If a home cinema system is on your Christmas list but you only have space on your living room for a 2.1 system, take a look at the Yamaha DVX-1000.

This Yamaha model consists of two 90W speakers + 1 big subwoofer, and received a good rating of 90% at RegisterHardware. The price tag is pretty high £1,000 (close to $1,500) but taking in consideration its performance, it is well worth the money.

Thanks to a Yamaha technology named Air Surround Xtreme, the DVX-1000 is able to provide sound quality similar to a 7.1 system.

The unit can handle DivX and DivX Ultra video, and JPEG snaps on disc or USB stick. Connections at the rear of the head unit include an HDMI interface, Scart, optical digital in, component- and composite-video out, s-video out, analogue (aux) input and line out.
