O!Play Media Player to Arrive at Computex from Asus


Computex is not even here yet and we keep hearing stuff about some of the gadgets that will be soon presented in Taiwan. One of them is Asus’ O!Play media player which is said to pack under the hood features like eSATA, USB, HDMI, stereo audio jacks, optical digital audio, Ethernet and an AC port. The player should be available to anyone interested in it this July and it will cost you about $168 when it will be released.

The FH007 is a 5-piece powered speaker system is designed and manufactured by UK audio specialist Ferguson Hill to be used with MP3 players, computers, and video game units, although it will also function admirably with a hi-fi receiver as well. The distinctive loudspeaker horns are formed from transparent acrylic, as are the spherical bass speakers.

The system is powered by a compact aluminum cube that houses a bi-amped class A/B, 16W x 4 solid state amplifier. With low-end frequency response down to 75 Hz, this little system isn’t designed to shake the floorboards but it sounds good and looks cool nonetheless. Retails for around £395.

A $16,750 CDC CD Player?

Nagra has a long produced tape recorders for professional video and film recording and now the Swiss company has come out with this top of the line $16,750 CDC CD player. The front panel features an unnecessary level meter and a handful of expensive knobs and toggle switches. So, what do you get for nearly seventeen grand?  The CD module is built into the front-loading CD tray rather than being bolted inside the machine.

Engineers claim that sliding the CD mechanism in and out in conjunction with the disc will improve listening pleasure by providing the “ideal mechanized environment for the CD module.” The drawer itself is powered by a  motor developed by a NASA supplier. The disc is contained by a magnetic clamp. Additional features include a pair of analog outputs coated with gold, AES, S/PDIF and Toslink digital outputs, along with nifty 24-bit digital-to-analog converters with 8x oversampling. Also included is a solid-state preamp so you can plug it straight into a power amplifier.

NEC Technologies Announces New 15.3-Inch LCD Module

NEC nEw 15.3 Inch Module Recently, NEC LCD Technologies announced the introduction of its new 15.3-inch LCD Module. This new product has been launched especially for high-end broadcasting and video production display applications. It is capable of delivering a perfect 1280 x 768 pixel WXGA resolution.

The new NEC LCD module incorporates the advanced UA-SFT technology with which the user gets to enjoy various benefits like excellent image quality, ultra-wide viewing angle of 176 degrees and a wide format. This new LCD module produces 330 cd/m2 brightness and a contrast ratio of 1000:1.

Pixel Qi Has E-ink Mixed with LCD 3qi Display


Palm Qi has a new display ready to merge e-ink with LCD. The new screen, the 3qi, is a prototype for now ready to be displayed at Computex soon. The new screen is said to be able to combine the best of e-ink and LCD displays. The new screen will work perfectly well whether indoors and outdoors, and in case you want to save some energy you’ll be able to use it in an e-paper mode. Unfortunately the screen is only 10.1-inch big and we expect it to be packed into a very energy-efficient future netbook. Onkyo C-S5VL SACD Player

onkyo-sacd-1 Onkyo Japan unveiled its latest C-S5VL SACD player coupled with their own digital amplifier A-5VL.  The player can record and play CD-R/RW,WMA or MP3 Discs. The player integrates jitter and noise reduction functionality to deliver crystal clear output. The A-5VL digital amplifier reproduces sound at 90W × 2ch (4Ω). The company plans to release the new SACD player on 27th June for 63,000 Yen and the A-5VL amp will be available for 84,000 Yen.

Sharp Brings Cyan and Yellow to the RGB Family

Sharp has decided it was time to bring two new colors to the already popular RGB spectrum. Its new line of LCD will have cyan and yellow added to the RGB gamut. The new technology will be referred to as the “Multi-Primary-Color Technology” and it sounds quite promising. This new trick will get you about 99 percent of all the colors you’re eye will ever see. The new displays will be available at the Society for Information Display Symposium which is going to be held in San Antonio next week. If you’re around, make sure you check it out.
