AMD Releases ATI Theater HDTV Tuner

TV Tuners are aplenty today but if there is one thing that many of them lack is that of carrying the proper delivery of HDTV which is scheduled to be used by most broadcast stations soon. This new chip is compatible with both PCI Express and USB buses, hence, will be available both as add-on card as well as USB stick.

“ATI Theater HD 750 combines AMD’s longstanding reputation for video expertise with consumer demand for a cost effective, easy to use and high quality TV on the PC experience,” said Matt Skynner, vice president and general manager of GPU division at AMD products group.

Of course, the pairing with the video graphics card will also play a key role. For example, if the ATI Theater HD 750 is paired with ATI Radeon HD 4000-series graphics chip, the new ATI Theater 750 can enable real-time transcoding of captured HDTV stream into popular video formats, such as H.264, AVI, MPEG, DivX, WMV and MPEG4, for use on portable media devices.

But the bottom-line here is the ongoing rant of being ready for digital TV, something many consumers are busy addressing. For the ones relying on TV Tuners, make a wise move and go with the people who are ready for the HDTV age.
