Samsung Blue Phase LCD Panel Achieves 240Hz

Thursday 15 May 2008 @ 7:24 am

Blue Phase LCD Panel 240hz
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., world’s leading provider of thin-film transistor liquid crystal display panels, has announced its new “Blue Phase LCD panel”. Offering more natural moving images with an unprecedented image-driving speed of 240 Hz, this one is the world’s first blue phase LCD panel.

This new Blue Phase mode is capable of making its own alignment layers, thereby eliminating the need for any mechanical alignment and rubbing processes. This new product of Samsung has been developed with an extremely cost-efficient design and doesn’t require liquid crystal alignment layers. The blue phase panel from Samsung reduces the possibility of bruising the LCD panel interface.

Samsung Electronics Executive Vice President Souk Jun-hyung, who leads the Display R&D Center of LCD Business, said, "Our blue phase mode is a major evolutionary development beyond conventional liquid crystal modes. Samsung’s development of this technology provides a tremendous opportunity to move image quality of LCD screens much closer to that of a real moving image."

Featuring a superior response rate, the blue phase mode allows images to be reproduced at 240 Hz or higher without the need for any overdrive circuit. Samsung Electronics plans to begin the mass-production of its Blue Phase LCD in 2011. These LCD panels will be used mainly in TVs, which require high-speed video reproduction.
