Cables – Is Pricier BetterBy Simon - 02/02/2009 4:32:58 PM |
Do really expensive cables make your Home Theater system look or sound any better? Although advertising would suggest that the answer is yes, many HT experts insist the answer is no. You can spend a lot of money on cables if you want to, but the truth is there is no difference between optical and coaxial digital cables, except that coaxial cables are much, much cheaper.
Other tips when shopping for cables include:
1) always use the shortest cable run possible in any application
2) look for good finger grips so the cables and be connected and disconnected easily
3) remember that although gold-plated can help prevent oxidation on cable ends, gold does absolutely nothing for sound quality, so if the gold-tipped cables are notably more pricey, you might want to pass.
