Onkyo has been in the news a lot lately and while normally one would think that this is another one of their many receivers, these latest products are new components which you can actually add to these said receivers. The products in focus are an amplifier and a CD deck.
The two units are the amplifier (A-5BL) and an accompanying CD deck (C-S5VL). According to Onkyo, they’re hoping that as consumers be more wary about splashing cash on big ticket items like a new car, holiday or kitchen, they won’t mind redirecting that cash to home audio gear instead. We suppose that assumption goes both ways - as long as Onkyo keeps their devices affordable without compromising on quality, folks wouIdn’t mind forking out some extra dough for it.
Prices are expected to remain below £500 when these are released.

This CD player takes you back in time when phonographs were a hit. Though we are way passed that, this retro designed look is certainly something that will capture anyone’s attention. In fact, while many may get deceived by the design, this can actually play standard audio CDs.
It’s a CD Player that can also play the vinyl records. What’s really unique is that a system has been incorporated where the device is able to “read” the gaps between the tracks, memorize them, and make it selectable, quite like how you would do with a CD.
The modern-day advantages include a CD system with an auto-recording feature that will hold a terabyte of memory. Files supported include MP3, MP4, WAV etc. It’s been originally designed for the Italian company Brionvega.

While Sony is occupied trying to saturate the market with its blu-ray technology, Panasonic is focusing on how to make compact players with LCD screens. These new mobile HD devices are bound to gain attention, perhaps taking off where a crop of portable DVD players with screens took the market by storm some years back.
Panasonic’s DMP-B15 has made its industry debut at this week’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, and offers on-the-go movie lovers access to solid mobile HD capabilities thanks to a tempting 8.9-inch LCD screen that delivers 1080p performance and a resolution of 1024×600.
Some notable features of this blu-ray player include:
Support for online Blu-ray expansion services via BD Live
Picture-in-picture access with BonusView
An SD memory card reader
Built-in HDMI port for interface with HD television sets
It also has limited Internet connectivity that allows access to popular video streaming sites like YouTube and Bloomberg News. There is word yet on how one player would cost but the DMP-815 model is expected to hit the market this coming May.
