This may well mark the first time that I’ve ever even heard of an MP5 player. And this means something, because anyone who’s been here for a while knows I’m scouring the net hunting up newsy bits on a weekdaily basis.
But I’m reading about the Yinlips YDP800, which promises to be the first MP5 player with its own internal projector. Here’s the salient I got from the source:
On paper it can project up to 12 lumens, play 64-bit games and supports NES, GBA, GB, GBC, SMC, SFC emulation. Weighing in at just 300g, it also sports a 3.5-inch LCD display, infrared remote, and support for 16GB microSD cards.
Twelve lumens isn’t anything big and fancy, no mistake there, but considering that you can take it anywhere and the thing likely runs on batteries? Now that’s no small feat.
Price and release data are still up in the air, but from what I can tell it’s an “on the order of soon” sort of affair, so look for the projector you can take anywhere coming soon.

Sometimes, the most amazing thing you can do with a home theater setup is to just make it as big as possible. And for the home theater drive in, that’s exactly what they did.
Let’s get one thing perfectly clear right from the outset–this is a home theater setup writ so large that it uses an entire fifty eight hundred square foot house for a screen. It is patently monstrous. Though there aren’t a whole lot of details about the audio equipment–you know there has to be some serious speaker wattage pouring out to overcome that massive open air problem. Either that or there’s headphones adjacent to every seat, which is a distinct possibility.
As fundamentally awesome as this setup is, on an operational level, I can’t imagine it working. One, you could pretty much only use it at night. Daylight sun would all but prevent the screen from being visible. Two, any time it rains, you couldn’t use this theater because there appears to be no provision made for inclement weather.
It’s a sweet setup, make no mistake about it, but its limits must be observed and noted.

The headline may well sound like so much overblown hyperbole, folks, but it’s true–according to a poll over at CNET, most people do NOT listen to music in their home theatres, but rather in one way or another on the go.
The current poll is nearly a three way tie between “on my iPod”, “on my computer”, or “in my car”, and each of them is leading “on my home theatre / stereo” by a factor of two to one.
I admit that it makes sense–when I’m putting my home theatre to work it’s not to play music, but rather to watch movies or TV. Why use the incredible power of a home theatre setup on music, when fully half your system is unused? I don’t need a projector and hundred inch screen to listen to Danny Kaye and the Andrews Sisters wail away on Civilization unless Fallout 3 is involved. It’s a waste, and most people have probably latched onto this fact, which in turn drives the poll.

There has to be something about the audio quality that iHome projects that make them quite flexible for use. While we all know that headphones are best used for private and personal listening, rarely would you see the same headphones used as speakers to deliver the satisfactory audio quality we all demand.
But leave it to iHome to come out with a pair of headphones that can deliver the same audio quality. These are of course with reference to the iHMP5 Series which can practically be headphones and stereo speakers rolled into one. They can work with practically anything that has a headphone jack. Either for personal or to share audio with your friends, these are definitely good headphones to have around.
