With the advent of multi-touch reaching us from any angle, here is one that comes in a larger scale. The Ring Wall is a multi-touch display composed of LED that should appeal to the business sector. A new form of marketing, it is equivalent to 6,000 computer displays providing 34,000 million pixels through 15 HD projectors. This display took 1.5 years to make and can be seen at Nurburging.
Acer has announced a brand new 23-inch LCD monitor ready to play nice with Windows 7. The T230H comes with full HD 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, VGA, HDMI and DVI inputs, USB connectivity, a brightness of 300cd/m2, 80,000:1 dynamic contrast and 2ms response time.
As for multitouch support, the new monitor can do one- and two-finger gestures and it will cost you $513 when it becomes available. Europeans are set to get it first but there are no actual release dates available yet.
NEC has joined the likes of Dell, HP and Sony in delivering the latest all-in-one desktop PCs powered by NextWindow optical touch screens. NEC has launched the ValueStar W AIO computer which features a 21.5” touch screen is only available in Japan. The launch of the NEC ValueStar W follows the release of previous models from leading companies like the TouchSmart 300 and 600 from HP and the Dell Studio One 19 AIO.
Critics believe that the AIOs with screens larger than 16” will increase in shipment by 2010, which should not really be surprising. AIOs seem to be the new flavor in the techies mind and it seems that this is where most computer monitor makers are focusing right now.
Dell Japan has officially unveiled the Dell SX2210T Multitouch LCD display. The Dell SX2210T is a 21.5” display that boasts of a 1920×1080 resolution and includes a 2 megapixel webcam for video web chats. It has a 50,000:1 contrast ratio and provides support for one to two finger gestures. For connectivity, it comes with the standard HDMI, DVI and VGA, and audio in/out. The Dell SX2210T is now available in Japan for about $488. No word on when this display would be hitting the international scene.
LG Electronics introduces a couple of new notebook monitors for its latest W30 Series with the LG W1930S and W2230S models. They come in different colors such as apple mint, jelly pink and Oreo colors. They can be used as traditional desktop monitors as well and features a widescreen display with a contrast ratio of 30,000:1. The screen size are 18.5” for the W1930S and 21.5 for the W2230S monitors. They will be introduced into the South Korean market initially. No word on pricing and international availability.
Hewlett Packard gets into the multi-touch display circle with the release of the HP Compaq 21” Multitouch L2105tm display. It is now available and is Windows 7 certified. It features a 1920×1080 resolution, a 1000:1 contrast ratio with 4ms response time and the usual interface connections like VGA, DVD-D and HDCP. This HP multitouch display retails for $300.
Lenovo has five new ThinkVision LCDs for you to choose from. These are the 17-inch L1711p, the 19-inch L1951p Wide, the 22-inch L2250p Wide, the 22-inch L2251p Wide and the 22-inch L2251x Wide and they are all eco-friendly, energy efficient monitors.
The monitors are TCO Certified and EPEAT Gold rated and they will offer you 1,680 x 1,050 resolution, a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 5ms response time. DisplayPort connectivity and built-in webcam will also be available on selected models.
The ThinkVision L1951p Wide, the L2250p Wide and the L2251p Wide will be available starting October 23 for $239.99, $249.99 and $259.99, respectively. The L1711p will be available on November 6 for $229.99 while the L2251x Wide will be available for $299.99 later next month.
3M announces an optical film solution designed for LCD TVs below 40” to aid in providing quality brightness by recycling polarized light with the Vikuiti DBEF D3-260. With the Vikuiti DBEF D3-260, LCD TV owners can enjoy up to 32% energy savings without sacrificing viewing quality which also enhances display viewing angles. The optical film solution from 3M also works well with prism films.
Samsung Electronics has announced that it will be rolling out their LD-Series notebook monitors which will act as secondary displays for notebooks. These new Samsung monitors are the Samsung LD220 (22”) and the Samsung LD190N (19”). The Samsung LD220G will rely on USB connectivity in delivering 1080p resolutions while the Samsung LD190N comes with a 1366×768 resolution via VGA connection. Both carry a contrast ratio of 20,000:1 with a 5ms pixel response time. The Samsung LD220G will retail for $250 while the Samsung LD190N will be at $150.
Hewlett Packard has unveiled three new HP TouchSmart PCs as well as a 42” diagonal HD digital signage touch display as part of their new offerings. The three new TouchSmart PCs are the TouchSmart 300, TouchSmart 600 and TouchSmart 9100.
The TouchSmart 300 (20”) and 600 (23”) incorporates HD widescreen displays with a multi-touch enabled screen. The TouchSmart 9100 is catered more towards the business sector and provides real-time information, video conferencing, and multimedia via its 23” diagonal full HD widescreen display.
The HP TouchSmart tx2 features a 12.1” diagonal WXGA HD HP LED widescreen powered by AMD Turion dual core processors. This device can be easily converted in three modes: PC, display and tablet, all thanks to its convertible design with twist hinge. It even comes with a digital ink pen where you can draw, sketch or take notes with it.
The HP LD4200tm is a 42” diagonal digital signage display that is suitable for indoor environments. It features a 1920×1080 full HD native resolution with an ultra-wide 178×178 degree viewing angle. It runs on infrared technology and is built to run 24/7 with low power usage.

It has a contrast ratio of 50,000:1 and comes with built-in SRS speakers to deliver quality and complimentary sound to the whole device.
Thanks to the various interface options, the LG M2362 LCD TV is equipped with 2 HDMI terminals and AV inputs that should be allow other gadgets like game consoles and DVD players to connect easily.
Mitsubishi has announced its latest power saving monitor in the Mitsubishi RDT231WLM-S 23” full HD monitor. It boasts of a 1920×1080 resolution and a 5 ms response time along with a 1,000:1 contrast ratio. The RDT231WLM-S carries the usual ports like HDMI and DVI and is highlighted by an ECO professional feature which should help in cutting down the power consumption of this 23” monitor. There is no word on pricing or availability for now.
What’s the average monitor size that you could settle for? It’s certainly not anywhere from 7- to 9-inches right? After all we’re looking for more and more display real estate and we rarely happen to choose smaller LCD monitors. But just in case you happen to want a little display then DoubleSight has three new models for you. They are all Smart USB monitors and don’t measure more than 9-inch diagonally. In fact the smallest one is the 7-inch version. Depending on what you choose you’ll get a 800 x 480 or a 1,024 x 600 resolution and a webcam on top of the DS-90UC model. How much does one such DoubleSight panel cost? The 7-inch is available for $120 while the 9-inch version is $20 more. I know I said there are three versions available but the third one is the DS-90UC for which you’ll have to fork out $160. Getting back to my initial question then: do we absolutely, unequivocally need smaller monitors?
Alphascan has new monitors ready for South Korea. The Femme Crystals are available in two versions both surrounded with Swarovski crystals. The 24-inch LCD monitor, the P241DHS, will offer you 60,000:1 contrast ratio, 2ms response time, HDMI connectivity and a built-in speaker. The 21.5-inch version, the P221D will only be able to get you a 50,000:1 contrast ratio and 5ms response time. There aren’t any release dates available so far girls and we don’t have prices either so you’ll have to keep waiting before you’ll be able to buy either one of them.

Dell originally unveiled the Dell 24” U2410 IPS Monitor in Japan last month for about $758. Now it officially lands in U.S. territory, reportedly retailing for about $599. Available at Dell’s USA store, the U24210 features a 1920×1200 pixel resolution with a 178-degree viewing angle.
The Dell U2410 carries the usual jacks and ports such as the DisplayPort, DVI, HDMI, composite and VGA. The specs are practically the same except for the price which seems to be lower than what we expected when it hit in Japan. But then again, who’s complaining!
