Rolltop OLED Display Laptop Concept

OLED displays will be a real hit in the near future. We’ll probably see them in more and more big-screen TVs and all sorts of computers and laptops. Take this Rolltop laptop here for example. The whole thing can be rolled up neatly whenever not used. The laptop comes with a flexible multitouch OLED screen which can be adjusted to serve either a 17-inch flat screen or a 13-inch tablet. There aren’t enough details about this concept at this point but we would certainly love to see this baby in action. Did I say it can also be used as a TV?

Kohjinsha Dual-Screen Swivel Netbook

The netbook in the picture here is definitely something else. Made by Kohjinsha, this 10.1-inch netbook will always be ready to offer you an extra 10.1-inch display whenever you require more screen space. All you have to do is use the slide mechanism to bring up the other LCD and hide it away when you’re done using it. Both panels will offer you 1,024 x 600 or 1,366 x 768 resolutions.

Other specs include an AMD Athlon MV-40 processor, a 2.5-inch SATA HDD, up to 4GB of DDR2 memory and Windows 7 Home Edition running in the background. As you can see, the Kohjinsha is definitely not your average netbook in terms of features. We have no idea when Kohjinsha will launch it as there might just be one important feature which, as you can see, is still unknown to us: the battery needed to power up those swiveling screens!

Netbooks to Offer GPU-accelerated 720p Flash Video Soon

Who said that a tiny netbook can be a part of your theater? Remember, it’s not the size that matters but the motion of the ocean, not that I’ve heard that line myself. What I mean to say is that it looks like NVIDIA’s and Adobe’s joint efforts have finally paid off. The video above shows 720p Flash video coming from a netbook. The netbook that does GPU-accelerated 720p video happens to be the ION-powered HP Mini 311 but don’t get all too excited right away. The technology behind it will be available only next year so you’ll have to wait a while before you start streaming videos from your little netbook..

Sweet Home Theatre Setup - Alyse

Okay, we’ve been talking about home theatre setups for some time now, and we’ve seen some really great ones and some that aren’t so great as the really great.  And today we’re looking at a home theatre setup from the AV Forums message board, posted by user Alyse.

Alyse gave a whole list of components, including a Sony 46″ Z4500 HDTV, a Sony DG910 AV 5.1/7.1 Receiver, a Sony S350 Blu-ray Player, 5.1 Speakers with subwoofer, an Xbox 360 and running Microsoft Vista Media Center on the whole thing.

Now, Alyse seems to have this theatre in a room with windows, or at least some kind of glass blocks facing outside, because there’s some light in there.  And a second thing you’ll notice is the glass coffee table right in front of that sweet Sony TV, giving off a reflection back at you. Generally, folks, the home theatre is a bad place for any kind of reflective surfaces that aren’t transmitting a picture.

Aside from these two fairly minor problems, however, Alyse definitely has a sweet home theatre setup.

iConvert VHS to PC Conversion

People who have been aching to watch their old films or movies but have problems due to conversion issues may finally enjoy them once again. Made especially for videos stored on old VHS tapes, a new device called iConvert can now convert old VHS cassette tapes to digital format.

All you have to do is connect your old VHS player to the iConvert device, insert and SD card and allow the VHS Tape to play. The data is then backed up at the SD card which can eventually be played on a PC or laptop.

Other devices can also be used with the iConvert like old camcorders. The unit costs $99.95. Now all you have to do is make sure that the old VHS player or camcorder is still working so you can transfer them to the new digital formats we use today.

With the growing trend of using laptops or Macs as alternative players to enjoy HDTV movies, don’t be surprised to find a new kind of interface (although an additional cable would be needed) on the next batch of notebooks out in the market.

Should you see a new port, this most likely would be the Kanex mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. With the new feature, you can now expect complimentary quality audio to go with those hi-def movies you want to watch, something that has been conspicuously absent from past models. This time, this new adapter will make sure you get just what your bargained for.
