Pioneer Corporation has finally succeeded in developing a 16-layer read-only optical disc with a huge capacity of 40 gigabytes for the first time in the world. This development is truly an achievement for Pioneer and has boosted its confidence in the feasibility of a large-capacity optical disc that will be needed in the future.
The new 16-layer optical disc technology is capable of storing much more data than was possible earlier in the conventional discs. It will help reducing the number of discs used and therefore help in contributing to the conservation of resources. Pioneer 16-Later Optical Disc features a wide-angle spherical aberration compensator and light-receiving element that can read out weak signals at a high signal-to-noise ratio.
Pioneer has in fact solved the problems of obtaining clear signals from each recording layer in a stable manner by utilizing the optical disc production technology in its 16-layer optical disc. You will also be glad to know that it is possible to maintain compatibility between the new 16-layer optical disc and the BD discs. Pioneer is soon going to present the details of this mind-blowing research at the International Symposium on Optical Memory and Optical Data Storage 2008 that will be held in Hawaii from July 13.

Cannon PC has proclaimed that they will be offering the solid state srives on their Media Center Systems. Enormous execution and reliability are the key characteristics of solid state disk drives which are grounded on SATA connectivity engineering and flash storage held in Cannon PC.Hard drives are 5 times slow paced than the SSDs employed in Cannon PC. Media Center therefore becomes profitable as it coolheaded and smoother.
‘Reliability, stability and performance are the key factors when we design our Media Centers.’ said Gregg Cannon, President of Cannon PC. ‘Since there are no moving parts, the MTF (mean time between failures) rate is 1,200,000 hours. This means less worry about system down time due to hard drive failure and means much faster performance.’
SSD Drives are scheduled to be available exclusively on the Cannon PC Pro A/V Series of Media Centers. These SSD drives will come installed with Windows Vista Operating system and will be available in 500 GB capacities.

World’s smallest read-head technology for hard disk drives has been established by the Hitachi Global Storage Technologies and Tokyo Hitachi Limited. It is invented with the notion that it will quadruple the present storage capacity up to four terabytes on a note book hard drive and on desktop. Thus the canvassers have attained success of dropping the accessible recording heads to acquire latest heads in the ranges of 30-50 nanometers which are even smaller in comparison to the thickness of human hair. According to Research Director, Storage Technology Research Center, Central Research Laboratory, Hitachi, Ltd, Hiroaki Odawara this is the most low cost high storage capacity hard drive which gives customers unlimited capacity for accumulating digital data content. It also possesses some characteristics features that make it identical like:
- It allows 500 gigabits per square inch to one terabit per square inch for hard disk drive recording densities.
