
Hitachi recently exhibited its new Deskstar 7K1000 industry’s first terabyte (TB) hard drive. Designed for the consumers who want to store lots of digital information, it will be available in the first quarter of 2007 at a suggested retail price of $399 (USD), or 40 cents per gigabyte (GB). Hitachi’s Deskstar 7K1000 is made for PCs and home media centers so that you can enjoy family games, home movies, photos and music in large quantity.

Deskstar 7K1000 features 2 maximum areal density, 1070 Mb/s maximum media data rate, 8.7 ms average seek time (with command overhead), 4.17 ms average latency, 32 MB data buffer (SATA), 26.1 mm height (max), 0.7 kg weight (max), 5/4 platters, 10/8 recording heads (SATA), 300 G/1 ms pulse non-operating shock rating, 9.0 (5 disk)/8.1 (4 disk) watt idle power (SATA), 29 dB idle acoustics and, 5-60 degree C operating temperature. Deskstar 7K1000 SATA version will be available in Q1 at 750-GB and one-TB capacities. 1TB model is priced $399 (USD).
