Netflix Contest Comes to an End! And the Winner Is…By DaX - 07/26/2009 10:30:12 PM |
Remember that contest that Netflix started in 2006? The goal of the competition was to improve the accuracy of the Netflix’ movie recommendation algorithm. Well about a month ago a team did it! BellKor’s Pragmatic Chaos submitted an algorithm that was 0.08% better than Netflix’s 10%. And thus a 30-day countdown started which meant that other teams had just a month to beat that score. And it was The Ensemble, a new team that submitted a 10.09% score on the second to last day.
What happened next? Well Bellkor managed to match that 10.09% and it seemed like that million dollars was going to be divided by the two teams. But just four minutes before the time ran out The Ensemble outdone themselves and everyone else with a final 10.10% score. So there you have it folks, Netflix has a winner and it’s The Ensemble!
