Apple recently announced the availability of its Cinema Display during MacWorld San Francisco 2009. The display uses LED-based backlighting for illumination and offers crisp, sharp and vibrant images and video.

The display uses LCD technology in which backlight is made up of an array of individual LEDs. These LEDs can be turned off entirely or dimmed. These displays are highly energy efficient as they consume very less energy.

The current 30 inch Apple Cinema Display featuring a normal lamp based backlighting is priced at $1,639. Though the price has not yet been disclosed by Apple for its 30” and 24” displays; but it will surely be a little on the higher side.
