Philippines Telephone Giant Launches Satellite Television Service
The timing couldn’t have been better. The Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. is scheduled to launch tomorrow another first, the direct-to-home (DTH) satellite television service which coincides with the 63rd birthday of its chief, Manny Pangilinan.
Known as Cignal, this will be a first in Philippine soils. It will be operated by Mediascape Inc. and actually made pilot tests some months ago. In short, HD viewing will commence service tomorrow July 14 which offers about 22 channels.
And the best part is the price. At P390, the service is cheaper than local cables offered in the country. However, the bad news is that this service will be made available to areas without cable TV first. So for the Filipinos who are eager (including myself!) to know when they can avail of the service, you may have to wait a while. Stick to the cable channels for now.
