SanDisk recently announced its Solid State Drive SATA 5000 2.5″ SSD SanDisk in 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64 GB capacities. Sandisk was shortly selected by IBM to provide Flash-Based Storage Solution in IBM’s BladeCenter HS21 XM Blades. The latest SSDs are aimed at catering data storage requirements by IBM BladeCenter HS21 XM Blades. SATA 5000 will result in low power consumption up to 18 watts per blade, 252 watts per chassis and 1,512 watts per server rack3 thereby reducing energy costs.

 “The integration of SanDisk’s SATA 5000 2.5″ SSD within IBM blades is a testament to the value of these products over conventional spinning media,” said Ofer Tsur, vice president of SSD marketing at SanDisk. “Servers, personal computers and many other systems are sure to benefit with SSD products from SanDisk.”

These drives are a virtually maintenance-free alternative to conventional disk drives as they have fixed parts. SanDisk SSDs feature a sustained read rate of 67 megabytes (MB) per second and a random read rate of 7,000 inputs/outputs per second (IOPS) for a 512-byte transfer. They are more reliable as they deliver 2 million hours mean time between failures (MTBF). The latest SSD models by SanDisk generate less heat and make less noise.
