Sharp and Sony Postpone LCD Joint Venture

We’re not exactly looking forward for Sharp’s and Sony’s LCD reunion. I mean sure, a joint LCD product could be interesting enough but then again why not maintain the competition between the two manufacturers.

And it looks like Sharp and Sony have decided to postpone the start of such a joint production and sales ventures. The new date is March 2010 but until then the companies will continue to talk under a memorandum of understanding that was signed in February 2008. A clear agreement will be signed by the end of June.

The Sakai LCD plant is still being built but we have no idea if Sony will still sport that $4.2 billion or 34% of its total value. Does Sony still afford to spend that money after that disastrous 2008?
