I don’t ordinarily think of Sharp when I think of the best televisions on the market.  I’m not sure why that is.  Maybe I don’t see enough of their stuff.  Maybe they’re not advertising in the right media to catch me.  I don’t know what it is but I’ve never thought of Sharp as a premium brand.

The Sharp LC32SB24U, meanwhile, has gone a terribly long way toward changing my mind on that score. It’s a thirty two inch that plays in 720p, and can play in High Brightness mode to counter natural sunlight, even if you put the TV near an open window.  It also has two HDMI ports and a PC input for connection to other devices.

What really surprised me most about this model was how clear the image was, even close up.  A lot of 720p televisions will get artifacts when they depict movement, especially if you look close, but this managed to keep its image quality up no matter where I looked at it.  The sound quality was also high-quality, something of a rarity in these days of “hook it to a receiver”.  The side mounted controls were clearly marked and functioned smoothly and without incident.

The Sharp LC32SB24U is a high quality system that functions very well on its own or as part of a component-rich environment.  It’s definitely worth the five hundred bucks retail they’re asking for this.
