Sony BDV-E300 Home Theater System Review–Strong on Everything But Value

Sony offers up a Blu-ray home theater system for our consideration, and like so many products we see around here, it’s got plenty of high points going for it.  Today we’re talking about the Sony BDV-E300, and it’ll be mostly good, at least until you consider the bottom line..

The Sony BDV-E300 is a thousand watt 5.1 channel home theater system that offers a Blu-ray player, five speakers, a subwoofer and receiver, a variety of surround sound decoders including Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-ES Discrete 6.1, digital radio tuner, one component output, one composite output, one HDMI output, two audio jacks, a USB port and an ethernet port.

The sound quality here is quite a bit better than some I’ve heard, though not as good as the super-powerful Bose models.  And there are certainly more than enough options to keep most anyone happy, as well as a fairly simple to follow control scheme.

Now this all sounds pretty good, and with good reason (it is!) but you have to bear one thing in mind.  This is currently selling for four hundred thirty dollars on Amazon, and that’s a pretty good amount of cash for a system this size.  There are better bargains at not too much lower utility for any of a dozen other systems.

Thus, while the Sony BDV-E300 is a good quality system, unless your pockets are sufficiently deep, I’d consider a better deal elsewhere.
