SONY is planning to launch Television for the BlindBy Aditi The HomeTheater Girl - 07/02/2007 7:10:20 AM |
In our rat race of competition, we forgot those who are visually handicapped. Now Sony calls on manufacturers and broadcasters to join its campaign to manufacture products and offer services for blind and partially sighted people. New Sony BRAVIA will let visually impaired people reap benefits of technological development. The TV’s will be equipped with Audio Description (AD), an additional narrative soundtrack for blind or partially sighted people to deliver an additional voice explaining visual plot points, enabling visually impaired people to follow the storyline more elaborately. Sony has planned to incorporate Integrated Digital Television (IDTV) as standard in its BRAVIA range of televisions and provide access to AD without the need for an additional decoder.
Andreas Ditter, Vice President TV Operations Europe comments: “For nearly 40 years Sony has been one of the world’s leading television manufacturers. With the recent advances in digital technology, television is now something that can, and should, be enjoyed by everyone, including the visually impaired and hard of hearing. As a market leader, Sony is leading by example by making Audio Description accessible as standard in our entire BRAVIA range. We hope that other manufacturers follow our example, thereby leaving no excuse for broadcasters not to offer this service.”
