Sony’s Wi-Fi Blu-Ray Player Now Shipping

Well, folks–if you’ve ever felt like dropping three hundred fifty bucks on a Blu-Ray player, you’ll have your chance when Sony’s BDP-S560 hits the markets on the order of soon.

This model, you see, isn’t just a Blu-Ray player–it’ll also upscale play DVDs, AND if your discs are looking a little scratched, no problem; seems Sony’s new model will actually correct for that via its Precision Drive technology.  It’ll store and share digital photos with machines that join it in the Digital Living Network Alliance, accept a USB card to transfer photos, and will even offer streaming via HDMI.

Okay, so maybe it’s actually WORTH three hundred and fifty bucks, but I find myself unsure.  Why not just buy a desktop PC instead for about the same money and get lots more options?  I’m not saying that this isn’t a spectacularly versatile piece of hardware, I’m just saying that it might be a bit overpriced considering what you get.  Whether or not anyone else will agree, of course, is up to them.
