Now, you might think that just having a home in the magnificent sunny paradise known as Honolulu would be enough good fortune for any one lifetime. But for one homeowner, it’s not good enough to be in some of the nicest weather on earth–you’ve got to have a sweet home theater setup, too.
And sweet it is. Outfitted by iDesigns by Michael, this theater packs an almost uncomfortable amount of beauty and power into one clean and highly efficient package.
The theater itself contains a huge array of Velodyne and Speakercraft speakers, and a host of Netstream audio and video products. Literally the entire house is wired for sound on one level or another, and it shows throughout.
It’s amazing to get a home theater setup that’s actually very sweet by itself, but almost pales in comparison with the rest of the house. And at that stage of the game, it must be a sweet setup.

We’ve talked about some really sweet home theater setups up and down the dial, from bargain basement theaters to the spectacularly extravagant. But very few home theaters breach that seven figure mark, and today, we’ve got one that did.
Ivan Messer’s home theater setup contains fully one million dollars worth of audio products alone. In fact, most every single audio component installed in the array comes in multiples. What he’s got in there is downright shocking, and he built this setup mostly to prove that he could.
What does he have in there, you’re probably asking by now? It’s downright phenomenal–here’s the rundown: a one hundred twenty inch Stewart Filmscreen, a Sony projector, two Sony Bravia televisions (one forty inch and one fifty two inch), and two–yes, TWO–Sony HD receivers.
But here’s where it gets wild: he’s got fully twenty four McIntosh MC-1.2KW amplifiers. Your jaw might drop there, but hold it in–this home theater setup has a GRAND TOTAL of fully, unless I misread the spec sheet, thirty eight amplifiers. I had to do some MATH in there because there’s maybe eight different kinds of McIntosh amp in there. There are another eight McIntosh speaker systems on top of that, plus an additional nine regular McIntosh speakers.
It’s a sound system that might be classifiable as a weapon if you pick the right song, and for that reason, it’s definitely one sweet home theater setup.

3D Gesture Control System
In recent years there has been an increasing effort to create 3D computer interfaces and televisions. Now, it may be time for the television to see us -in 3D. Since 1999, Canesta has been working on a range of low-cost, chip-based 3-D sensors that can be built into just about anything – from TVs and PCs to cars - and now the technology has filtered into real-world applications like Kicker Studio’s gesture control entertainment system. Canesta’s new perception technology chips can “see” three dimensionally in real time.
A thrilling application for this technology is now being showcased by Kicker Studio in an entertainment system that is controlled by gestures. The entertainment system can react to a number of gestures to allow control of audio and video content such as fast forward, channel change and play back. Amazingly, it can also be sensitive enough to a single control master in a room with many individuals so no more fighting over the remote control. (Photo: Kicker Studios and Gizmag).

Visteon has teamed up with Boston Acoustics to create a sound system that can bring the home theater experience to a moving vehicle. The Audiophile Sound System will be available as an option in Chrysler 300 Series sedans later this year, and may soon show up in other makes and models. What makes this system unusual is the fact that each seating position in the car has its own equalized calibration system. The sound doesn’t just come out of the door speakers, but rather from all around each passenger; making passengers feel like in a surround sound theater or concert hall rather than on the road. In early January, Visteon also announced the development of an in-vehicle infotainment system that receives local digital television, making a complete in-vehicle Home Theater experience more than just a dream.
Enjoying Home Theater in a moving vehicle may seem strange, but increasingly it is exactly the kind of perk that can make the difference between a car sitting on a lot or in a buyer’s driveway. HT in cars is especially desirable in mid-sized crossovers and sedans that routinely transport families with children.
