LG LH5000 LCD TV with TruMotion Released

LG Electronics unveils a new line of LCD TVs, reinforced with their own TruMotion 200Hz processing. This only means that when it comes to fast picture scenes, the level of pixels produced and frames missed can only get smaller.

LG’s TruMotion processing inserts three extra digitally generated frames for every ‘real’ frame. The process however offers a great deal more than simply inserting the preceding frame three times in quick succession. LG employ some technological wizardry to ‘estimate’ what each new frame should look like, the aim being to further enhance fluidity of motion.

The LH5000 series is available in 32in, 37in, 42in, and 47in varieties and has the advantage of being the cheapest 200Hz equipped LCD TV’s around. The new LG range also comes complete with 4 HDMI inputs, a claimed 80,000:1 contrast ratio and Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolutions.

Toshiba REGZA SV LCD

Toshiba unveils a new line of Regza LCD TVs with the new Toshiba Regza SV. Coming in 46 and 55 inches, these new offerings from Toshiba sports an LED backlight, Resolution+ upscaling and 200Hz scanning.

The RGB LED backlight boosts the color gamut and sports local dimming to increase the black levels in darker areas of the picture, much like the systems we’ve seen used in high-end Samsung, Sony and Philips LCD in the past year.

Also on the SV series is DLNA networking tech for media streaming, four HDMI inputs, DivX playback via USB and a new “Deep Lagoon” design that sees the screen sitting flush with the TV frame - this apparently boosts contrast, much like the slight glossy surfaces of current Samsung TVs.

The Regza SV is scheduled to hit the stores next month. No pricing has been announced.

Onkyo Announces New Receivers with Pro Logic Technology

Onkyo unveils its new line of audio receivers headed by the debut of Dolby’s radical new Pro-logic 2z processing mode, which adds two front height channels to the usual 5.1 multichannel mix. The new models offer jazzed up feature sets and claim better audio fidelity than previous iterations.

  • TX-SR507
It comes with a tempting sub-£250 price point, three HDMI inputs and Dolby Volume, which flattens out sudden level changes automatically. However, its lack of support for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA will doubtless have cinephiles moving up to its sibling: the TX-SR507. This £350 5.1 alternative offers four HDMI inputs, plus a swanky new programmable remote control.
  • TX-SR577
Pro-Logic 2z decoding makes its debut on the £400 TX-SR577. This also offers 7.1 channel support and four HDMI inputs. If you don’t want to festoon your living room with more speakers, you can use the extra amplification to bi-amp your stereo fronts
  • TX-SR607
The hottest model though is likely to be the £500 replacement for the best-selling TX-SR606, aptly named the TX-SR607. This Pro-logic 2z, hi-rez audio AV receiver sports five backside HDMI inputs, plus one front-facing HDMI and video up-conversion to HDMI out for all sources. Video clean-up is provided by Faroudja DCDi Edge silicon. The front-mounted HDMI input will be welcomed by those looking for a quick hook-up of games consoles, laptops and cameras. Both the SR507 and SR607 come with Audyssey 2EQ acoustic room correction, Dynamic Volume and Dynamic EQ.

TEAC LCDV3253HD with Integrated DVD Player Combo

TEAC unveils a combo solution as far as molding LCD TVs with DVD players. While this does seem to help in terms of making innovative steps towards one gadget that can hold a DVD player and a TV in one, some technical aspects of this product may be up for criticism.

The remote control leaves a lot to be desired as far as menu and button features are concerned. Add to that, the buttons on the remote may be a problem for people who hate small buttons to push when checking out the features.

The DVD drive is removable, so that if it breaks down you don’t lose your TV if the DVD player needs to go back to the shop.

    Features:

  • 1366×768 resolution and is capable of displaying a 1080p signal
  • High-def tuner
  • 3 HDMI inputs
  • Analog tuner
  • Contrast ratio: 1,500:1
  • Pixel response time is rated 6.5ms
  • The DVD drive supports all the usual DVD standards, but it was a little tougher finding out what formats the USB input covers.
