New Orb Home Theater Speaker Systems Unveiled by Orb Audio

These Orb Speaker Systems put the exclamation on small things come out big. Deceptively small but stylish, these new Orb Speaker systems from Orb Audio produce big quality sounds. The heart of the Orb speaker system is the spherical Mod1 satellite speaker, which is a little bigger than a baseball and is made from high carbon steel. The Mod1 uses advanced technologies like rare earth magnets, Santoprene, Nomex and CCAD voice coils to produce big, full sound from the smallest possible package.

“Using ultra-high quality parts, and using them conservatively, really allows us to push the limits of physics so that these little speakers have a lot of the characteristics of much bigger speakers,” said Siegel. “My partner (co-founder and Chief Designer, Gary Pelled) really pulled the rabbit out of the hat on this one.”

Orb Audio products are priced starting at $239 for a Quick Pack of two satellite speakers, which of course can be upgraded to any complete Orb system in the future.

Martin Logan Thin-Film Home Theater Speakers

Slim is in and I am not just talking about body weight. This is also evident in the world of technology and in this case, home theater setup. Martin Logan unveils a new thin-film home theater speaker option, which tries to come close to being as thin as films.

But in the end, it all boils down to audio quality and delivery. Outside appearance is nothing if you don’t deliver the goods and this comes in the form of complementing the video entertainment that people look for today.

Boasting some serious detail and fast driver response, the Encore TF uses an ATF (Advanced Thin Film) driver, as well as long-excursion, low-mass woofers and advanced crossover engineering to produce dynamic lifelike sound. Its discreet slimline design and uniform dispersion characteristics make it an excellent choice for center, front or rear channel duties.

From the image above alone, how can you ask for anything more. Design is important but it doesn’t count if it fails to render the audio complement that home theaters are known to provide.

Atlantic Technology 4400 THX Home Theater Speaker System

Atlantic Technology unveils a new and improved replacement for its System 4200e system in the 400 THX Home Theater Speaker system. The new series maintains the same driver complement and electronics as its predecessor, with improved aesthetics and ergonomics for custom installation.

The Atlantic Technology System 4400 provides the home theater enthusiast with premium THX Select certified performance in a moderately priced product that looks and sounds like a far more expensive system. The 4400 LR and 4400 C front speakers each use a pair of 5.25-inch GLH (Graphite Loaded Homopolymer) woofers mounted flanking a single 1-inch silk dome tweeter.

The 4400 LR employs a vertical MTM configuration for wide, highly linear horizontal dispersion, while limiting vertical dispersion to reduce unwanted reflections from the floor or ceiling. The 4400 C includes the same drivers oriented horizontally, but with the woofers side-by-side and the tweeter above and between the woofers.

Cerwin Vega CVHD 5.1 Channel Home Theater Loudspeaker System

To most people, Cerwin Vega is associated with classic car audio. But it looks like they are dipping their hands into the home theater market with the release of the Cerwin Vega CVHD 5.1 Channel Home Theater Loudspeaker System. Although lacking in physical style, sounds great for home theater applications, but does have a few shortcomings.

In terms of style, the CVHD 5.1 has a plain, lackluster, appearance and the large subwoofer defeats the purpose of a compact home theater speaker system. However, it is reasonably priced for what it offers.

This system is reasonably priced for what it offers. However, keep in mind that that although the CVHD 5.1 home theater speaker system comes packaged with wall mounting hardware, the floor stands are optional and must be purchased separately, so budget accordingly if you need, or desire, this option.
