mDP Ports To Become Standard in Laptops

As we see a new wave of interface jacks and ports being integrated into mobile devices today, the VESA group has decided to make the mini display port standard. It is also known as the mDP which should now be compatible with most displays used provided they meet Display Port 1.1 standards. So don’t be surprised if the next time you buy a new MACBook or laptop, there is a new port in the mix!

Rolltop OLED Display Laptop Concept


OLED displays will be a real hit in the near future. We’ll probably see them in more and more big-screen TVs and all sorts of computers and laptops. Take this Rolltop laptop here for example. The whole thing can be rolled up neatly whenever not used. The laptop comes with a flexible multitouch OLED screen which can be adjusted to serve either a 17-inch flat screen or a 13-inch tablet. There aren’t enough details about this concept at this point but we would certainly love to see this baby in action. Did I say it can also be used as a TV?

Samsung Integrates YouTube Service for Select Blu-Ray Players

Samsung Electronics adds another welcome feature for its line of Blu-ray players with the addition of the YouTube service for select Blu-Ray player models. Owners of the BD-P1600, BD-P3600 or BD-P4600 Blu-ray players will now be able to enjoy user-generated content on YouTube through uploading the value-added service at no extra charge.

Once connected to the Internet, owners of the said Samsung Blu-ray players can access YouTube with a simple press of a button on the remote control from the main screen. Once connected, users can browse through available videos from the YouTube site as you would on a standard PC or laptop.

Pioneer launches ultra-slim portable DVD burner

Pioneer has today announced that they will be launching an ultra-lightweight, ultra-slim portable DVD burner for use with netbooks and notebooks.

As you can see from the above picture, it bares resemblance to a CD jewel case more than it does to a DVD burner but that’s the point; it’s ultra portable. Spec wise this thing will read/write DVD-Rs at 8x and CD-R/CD-RW at 24x.

This particular DVD burner will go on sale next month for a MSRP of $79.99. Now we’ll just have to wait a while longer before Pioneer releases a Blu-ray burner in this form factor.

Acer to Lauch 3D Laptop?


Let’s face it folks, we’re going to see more and more 3D displays in the near future and some of them will be nicely attached to laptops. Acer seems ready to make that step as it plans to launch a 3D laptop by fall. The Aspire 3D laptop might be here by October and it will run Windows 7 with support for native 3D content. In case you plan to get one of those future laptops also make sure you get a comfortable pair of those special stereoscopic goggles needed for that 3D effect.
