ATSC Mobile DTV Standard Comes to the U.S.

Enjoying digital television broadcast can now be done via mobile devices after the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) had approved the A/153 ATSC Mobile DTV Standard. From here on, technical specifications on how to deliver digital TV transmissions will guide broadcasters in delivering new services to handheld and mobile devices. This includes free television, interactive services delivered in real-time, subscription-based TV and file-based content downloads for playback on mobile devices. The ballot, tallied at midnight Oct. 15, was approved with overwhelming support by the full ATSC membership.
