Need Extra Room In Your DVR For Cheap?

Hey guys!  I got a DEAL for you–seems the crew out at Newegg is selling a Western Digital My DVR Expander WDG1S5000 500GB eSATA External Hard Drive for just under eighty bucks, with free shipping.

This sucker comes with five hundred gig of storage, which is about enough for about two hundred and fifty hours of video.  It’s also got an eSATA interface, and was designed especially to serve as an add-on for most DVRs.

So if you’re like me, and you find yourself butting up against your storage limit from taping one too many good movies or trying in vain to keep up with an entire season of, well, something or other, there’s a few good choices but one title here’s almost as good as the next, then you should be able to give your DVR lots more space for not a lot of money thanks to the crew out at Newegg and Western Digital.

Western Digital announces WD TV Mini

A few days ago we gave you a glimpse of one of Western Digital’s HD media players entitled the WD TV-2. Today, however, Western Digital has notified us of a cheaper, less feature intensive media player entitled the WD TV Mini.

The little device you see above will feature a USB port for the playback of just about every file type you can throw at it, composite and component outputs with resolutions up to 1080i. Unfortunately, there is no HDMI port or 1080p support but remember, this is for the budget conscious consumers out there.

Western Digital’s WD TV Mini is available now from a variety of retailers for $99.

Western Digital WD TV-2 Leaked

Picking up from the success of its WD TV HD Media Player last year, a leaked WD TV-2 has come out but promises to be a lot better. The latest HD Media Player offering now features network playback over new Ethernet jacks, DTS audio decoding and a plug for people caught in between composite and HDMI.

It comes with a bundle of codec support which means that it can practically cater to most video formats we have today. No definite date of release or price has been reported but this should all be answered in a couple of months.

ioSafe Solo External HDD Is Waterproof and Fireproof

When’s the last time your external hard drive got burned? Submersed under water? Most of us didn’t have such experiences yet but in case we will want to keep our data protected even when its under water or surrounded by flames then we should get that new HDD from ioSafe.

$199 will get us a 500GB model but if we’re willing to spend that much then we’d better get the 1.5TB model which costs $349. The external HDD in the picture will survive for three days in ten feet of water or 30 minutes in a great fire. Oh and the Solo isn’t the name of the hard drive itself. That’s the name of the case which will protect the drive. Inside there’s actually a Western Digital or Seagate drive.
