Video Games Outsold DVD and Blu-ray First Time Ever

2008 was a good year for video games. Better than expected actually. Media Control GfK International says that video games sales surpassed DVD and Blu-ray sales worldwide for the first time in 2008. Does that mean we like to play more than we like to watch movies? Did the financial crisis strike our movie addiction?

DVD and Blu-ray sales dropped 6% in 2008, totaling $29 billion while video games grew 20% in the same period, totaling $32 billion in sales. But did we watch less movies than we played games in 2008? Here’s the real question! And did anyone even tried to estimate the total number of illegal downloads out there?
