WARNING: Asian pirates disguising DVD-Rs as Blu-rays

Here is something that was so inevitably bound to happen, one could only wonder why it’s only starting to appear now.

Thanks to EngadgetHD, we now know that Asian piracy rings have begun producing Blu-ray lookalikes. What they have done is ripped a Blu-ray disc and burned it to a regular DVD-R in AVCHD format, making for a cheap duplicate which could have untrained consumers believing it’s the real thing.

So remember, next time you’re walking around NYC in China town and you see that newly released Blu-ray disc for less than $10, chances are it’s a DVD-R in disguise.
